Top Favorite Metal Covers
Each band has their own individual sound obviously, but one of the cool ways they showcase it is when covering other artists work. Now, with that said sometimes it can be hit or miss... awesome bands have done bad covers. (that's a separate list for a different time.) but when it's good, you get some pretty bad ass results. Here are some of my personal favorite metal covers. (note: these are not in any particular order, also I'm excluding instrumentals from this list for a future post)
1. Death - Painkiller (Judas Priest)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quPliK3eAy4
The final track on the band's last album, this is a phenomenal cover. we actually get to hear Chuck's clean vocals towards the end of the song. (the intro alone lets you know it's going to be epic.)
2. Ghost - Here Comes The Sun (The Beatles)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OUWgxu7xng
Say what you want about Ghost, but you can't deny the fact that they have pretty talented musicians
and a unique vocalist.
3. Firewind - Breaking the Law (Judas Priest)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IETN0lUYOCg
Power metal plus Judas Priest. Need I say more?
4. Metallica - Overkill (Motorhead)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdZiOts-r7M
A lot of people seem to forget this Garage Inc. gem. It's often over looked by the band's covers of Queen, Diamond Head, Thin Lizzy and Bob Seger.
5. Megedeth - Paranoid (Black Sabbath)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MTcEcNYL50
A great cover with a hilarious ending. FUCK. ME. RUNNIN.
6. Ozzy Osbourne/Dweezil Zappa - Stayin' Alive (Bee Gees)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0GWWuwJOho
The Prince of Darkness meets disco, it's a perfect match.
7. Arch Enemy - Symphony of Destruction (Megadeth)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk0086ewpjg
This is one I can personally say is better than the original.
8. Prince - Creep (Radiohead)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFXZNt4oLkE
Yes I know this isn't a metal cover, but it's definitely worth the mention.
9. In This Moment - Closer (N.I.N)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLRHjGUyE70
Love them or hate them, this is a sexy-er take on this awkward classic.
10. Michael Jackson - Come Together (The Beatles)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubR9cXWkXv8
Again, I know this isn't a metal cover, but it's worth mentioning, Jennifer
Batton is underrated.
11. Motley Crue - Helter Skelter (The Beatles)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF6Vvq3f3UY
My all time favorite band, and lucky for me I got to see them play this live twice!
12. Marylin Manson - I Put A Spell on You (Screamin' Jay Hawkins)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qkrsodwJGY
M.M's voice fits this song perfectly

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-nWczD9NwA
Great cover.
14. Behemoth - Freezing Moon (Mayhem)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8f_1qrCxgY
I thought no one could sing this song with the emotion that Dead did, but Nergal's vocals gave me goose bumps.
15. Type O Negative - Black Sabbath (Black Sabbath)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU3WL7Cp4i0
I didn't think this song could sound anymore evil than it already did, holy shit was I wrong.
16. H.I.M - Don't Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult)
